Free-Internet Windows 95/98 Connection Guide

Assuming Dial-Up Networking, Dial-Up Adapter and TCP/IP are properly installed, you can create a PPP connection in Dial-Up Networking.

  1. Open My Computer and double-click Dial-Up Networking.  Double-click Make New Connection.  The connection name can be anything you want as it is just the name of the icon.  We would recommend using Free-Internet.

  2. Enter the correct area code and telephone access number.

  3. Click Finish.

  4. In Dial-Up Networking, move the mouse pointer over the new connection icon you just made.  Right-click it and from the pop up menu, select Properties. You will see the window below.  Verify that the correct phone number and modem are listed.

  5. Click Server Types.    The window below will appear.  The settings should be set exactly as they are below.

  6. Click TCP/IP Settings.    The settings should appear exactly as displayed below.  When complete, click O.K., and then O.K. again to return to the General tab.

You should now be ready to connect, double click the new Dial-Up Networking connection, check that the username and password are correct and click connect.
