In the left column, click once on Inbox to highlight it.  In the toolbar of Outlook Express, click the Send and Receive icon.  New messages will appear in bold type in the upper right window.  The actual message will appear in the lower right window, with the sender, subject, and the first few lines of the message.

What to do with received messages
After downloading the messages, you have several options to choose from.    First, highlight the message you would like the option to apply to by clicking on it once.  You can select multiple files by holding the CTRL button or you can select all messages by highlighting the top message, and then clicking on the last message while holding the SHIFT button.

  • outlookreply.gif (145 bytes) Reply-to-Author - Click this button to reply directly to the person who sent you the message.  Clicking this button will bring up the message composition screen with the e-mail address filled in.   The original message will appear in the body, and you generally would type your response just above it.
  • outlookreplyall.gif (130 bytes) Reply-to-All - Clicking this button will allow you to respond to all the recipients of the original message.   Again, the e-mail addresses will be filled in automatically and the original message will appear in the body of the letter.
  • outlookfwd.gif (124 bytes) Forward - You can redirect a message to another address with this option.  After clicking this button, you can specify the address to which you would like the message sent. You do not need to enter a new message.
  • outlookdelete.gif (112 bytes) Delete - Deleting a message will place it in the Deleted messages folder.   They will remain there until you delete them again.  Messages deleted from the Deleted folder will be erased permanently.

How do I save E-mail addresses that I use often?
You can save your most commonly used e-mail addresses in the Address Book. To open the address book, click on File and then select Address Book. You can enter contact information, assign nicknames, and other information about the contact. When you are ready to send mail, simply click New Message.  Click on the green icon next the To: line to open the address book.  You can select the addresses from your list and the corresponding e-mail addresses.
