  • About the Hobby

If you are looking for a hobby that costs little to start, with little ongoing costs, then this could be the hobby for you. In 1976 my wife was looking in the local paper and happened on an advert which caught her eye. Find buried treasure coins and jewellery etc, hey Brian this sounds interesting, perhaps it would be fun for the kids to look into this. Having studied the ad we decided that we would follow it up by going to the shop to have a look and to find out more.---That's where it all started.
Having decided that it would be fun we purchased a machine which was within our price range not too cheap but not too expensive. The very first day, a Saturday when we had made our purchase we decided to head for the coast around 30 miles away and to give it a try. Low and behold working near the top of the beach just under the wall we found our first coins a couple of pennies, a halfpenny and a two shilling piece, and that was it I was hooked on a hobby that I still find fascinating after 35 years and go detecting at every opportunity.
We could not wait to get back to the shop to tell of our finds and when the next weekend we did get back in touch we were asked if we were interested in joining with a few other enthusiasts to meet and form a small club. This idea took my fancy and so the Historical Search Society (Mold) was formed.
